The Future of Literary Magazines (4 – 4.45pm)
Curated by Wasafiri magazine to mark its 40th anniversary year, and chaired by its Editor and Publishing Director Sana Goyal, this panel, in partnership with the conference, will feature editors in conversation about the importance of literary magazines in the current arts climate in the UK and offer sustainable and alternative models for the future. Together, Amy Baxter (Bad Form Review), Livia Franchini and Lucy Mercer (Too Little / Too Hard), and Naush Sabah (Poetry Birmingham Literary Journal) will demystify magazine publishing, discuss diversity and inclusivity, and the role magazines play in discovering, nurturing, and championing new critical and creative writing.
The conference will also feature a presentation on 'Decolonising Autofiction' (11.45 – 1.15pm) from Wasafiri Deputy Editor, Durre Shahwar, and 'Black Words and White Pages: A Dialogue in Decolonial Futures' (9.30 – 10am), co-presented by Wasafiri LAHP Intern, Angelique Golding, and Professor Deirdre Osborne.
