Martin Soames is a litigation solicitor with a publishing background. He has been involved in a number of cases which raise significant freedom of speech issues.
Before training as a lawyer he worked in book publishing in various roles including blurb writer, production assistant, and finally as a commissioning editor at Penguin where he published fiction and non-fiction, with a particular emphasis on political and travel books, as well as running the Modern Classics list.
As a result of becoming more interested in legal problems than editorial challenges he qualified as a lawyer and now advises a range of clients including book and magazine publishers, news organisations and providers of online content. Martin has a strong interest in writing and freedom of expression through his publishing and legal work.
