Maggie Gee joined the Wasafiri Advisory Board in 2004. She is the writer of eleven novels, a collection of short stories, The Blue, and a memoir, My Animal Life (2010).

Born in Poole, Dorset, she was one of the original 20 ‘Best of Young British Novelists’. Her seventh novel The White Family (2002) was shortlisted for the Orange Prize and the International Impac Award. Her last two novels, My Cleaner (2005) and My Driver (2009) are political comedies set between Uganda and the UK, and her work-in-progress is her first American novel, Virginia Woolf in Manhattan.

Maggie Gee was the first woman Chair of the Royal Society for Literature (2004-2008) and is now one of its Vice-Presidents. She is a Visiting Professor at Sheffield Hallam University.
