We are now open for submissions of articles, essays and interviews. Please read the full details below before submitting.
Wasafiri is the leading UK-based magazine in the field of International Contemporary Writing. From its beginning in 1984, the magazine has been a prominent site for the publication of research on literary texts and literary cultures from across the globe, including ground-breaking work in the fields of post-colonial and diaspora studies. Articles published in the magazine continue to be crucial to the recognition of the importance of the international and the contemporary within research and teaching cultures engaged with writing.
We are seeking conceptually rigorous, substantially researched, accessibly presented articles engaged with any genre of writing, including work on literatures in translation. We particularly welcome articles that strive to position new critical perspectives on any aspect or text of International Contemporary Writing within one or more broader context. These broader contexts might include but are not limited to long established approaches to genre or geography, current or historical political formations, visual cultures, new technologies, and interdisciplinary and inter-language perspectives.
Wasafiri maintains a core commitment to the publication of high quality, original scholarship alongside new work from emerging and established writers of poetry and prose fiction. The magazine is a significant site of exchange between scholarly and artistic communities working within the broad and multiplying scope of International Contemporary Writing. We are accepting submissions from scholars from across the world and from all disciplines engaged with literary cultures.
Wasafiri is a peer reviewed journal and listed in the Thompson Reuters Arts & Humanities Citation Index.
Submissions should be no longer than 6,000 words in length and previously unpublished. Please be aware that Wasafiri’s thorough in-house consideration and external peer review process means that a decision regarding publication can take six months.
