We are pleased to be opening the 2023 Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize for submissions until 30 June 2023.

Wasafiri is excited to announce that the inaugural Wasafiri Essay Prize for Early Career Researchers has been awarded to Antony Huen for his astute, important, and creatively engaged article, titled ‘The “old Hong Kong” and “a Gold-sifting Bird”: Hong Kong and Chinese Ekphrasis in Contemporary British Poetry’.

We’re delighted to announce an additional prize that will be awarded to this year’s shortlist.

The fifteen-strong shortlist for the tenth anniversary of the prize features writers from nine countries and five continents.

The winners of the 2018 Eccles British Library Writer’s Award are the novelist and short story writer Stuart Evers, and the author, librettist and screenwriter Tessa McWatt, who is also a Trustee at Wasafiri.
