Linton Kwesi Johnson
Linton Kwesi Johnson became only the second living poet and the first black poet to have his work included in Penguin’s Modern Classics series. Johnson’s first album, Dread Beat An Blood was released in 1978, and he has released 14 more albums, including LKJ Live in Paris in 2004, a CD and DVD celebrating his 25th anniversary as a reggae recording artist.
Caryl Phillips
Caryl Phillips’ novels include The Final Passage (1985), which won the Malcolm X Prize for Literature, Cambridge (1991), which won the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award and Crossing the River (1993) which won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize (for fiction) and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize for Fiction. He is currently Professor of English at Yale University.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichi
Adichie's first novel, Purple Hibiscus (2003), received general acclaim and her second novel, entitled Half of a Yellow Sun (2006) rapidly became one of the UK's best-selling works of fiction and subsequently earned several prestigious literary awards, among which the Orange Broadband Prize for Fiction (2007).
Chika Unigwe
Chika Unigwe is an Afro-Belgian writer of Nigerian origin. She is the author of fiction, poetry, articles and educational material. Her second novel, On Black Sisters' Street, was published in Dutch in 2008 (as Fata Morgana) and in English in 2009.
